Hyde park, Sydney

I have been to the Hyde park around four times, it locats nearby the city center (Most citis in Australia have this character in common, there are several parks within the CBD), besides the flowers, grasses and tress a park usually has, a bonus point - beautiful fountain and a histroic, grand church just nearby, it attracts lots of tourists coming for photoing.

Since I found the giant chess, I've always liked to sit beside to enjoy the competition. I'm not an expert in chess, I forget when I learned the rule of the chess as well. As a bystander, you can not only concentrate on the game and think about the intention of the step but also observe other onlookers. To see different kinds of people is really fun, especially when you're a foreigner, most people you see have different race from you.

Most Asians don't understand western chess? I found they felt new and strange, just left after taking a picture, rarely stopped and enjoyed the game. It's a pity that the majority of the bystanders are male, maybe females don't like chess. (Everyone likes to see the beautis, no one says we must focus on the chess)

After watching many competitions, I discovered a rule I don't know, it's called "castling" in English, the King can move to the side of castle then the castle can jump across the other side of the king. They often use this rule in the game.

Besides the giant chess board on the grouund, there are two tables nearby with small chess board on them. The western people don't feel shy at all to play the game among the crowd even if they might lose the game. If you want to play on the giant board you have to queue for it.

As for the person who keeps the giant chess, I don't have any idea. Sometimes I went there in the dusk, no one played there, don't even mention the chess.
